Day 1 : Marrakech – Essaouira – Marrakech:
This tour begins at 8h am; when we meet you at your riad. The drive to Essaouira is about three hours. Essaouira was founded in the 18th century as a fortified town. It was a major international trading seaport as it linked Morocco and sub-saharan Africa with Europe and the rest of the world. It is arguably the most popular coastal town in Morocco, owing to it’ s clean air and distinctive fishing port with its famous fleet of blue wooden fishing boats. We’ll provide you a map to help you explore the city (including some of our favourite spots for lunch). Near the port, you can select your seafood that has just been pulled from the water . Do not miss the well-maintained medina, full of craft shops and art galleries. Notable fans of Essaouira include Jimi Hendrix and Orson Welles, who shot several scenes of Othello here. Other places to visit include the Skala by the port, the wood souk below the ramparts (where local artisans produce many fine goods with Thuya wood, indigenous to the area), and the ramparts from the Portuguese era with cannons still in place. Note that if you’re visiting in late June, you’ll be joining the large crowd who travel to Essaouira every year for the highly-acclaimed Gnaoua Music Festival. We’ll return to Marrakech in the evening and end the trip back to your riad.
Essaouira:
Essaouira ( Mogador) is a Moroccan city overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with a long history and a distinctive architectural character . Essaouira city has seen in recent years a major tourist activity. The city of Essaouira contains many of the squares and walls of the magnificent historical monuments. This masterpiece is full of harmonious archaeological buildings, a cultural legacy from previous generations, with objective modern buildings, through which to discover walls, the scaffold “la sqala” with huge doors. Archaeological excavations carried out on the island have resulted in archeological remains of pottery vessels and fossils dating back to the second half of the 7th century BC. Archaeological research has shown that the island of Mogador was known as a period of vacuum between the fifth and the first centuries BC. However , the existence of some potter y pieces dates back to the fourth century BC, indicating the existence of commercial relations between the island and the rest of the Mauritanian cities of Tangeria in ancient Morocco. During the reign of the Amazigh king Yuba II, the island was known to be an important flourishing plant. Archaeological excavations indicate the settlement of the island during the Roman period until the fifth century.
