Program itinerary

Day 1 : Casablanca – Rabat:

We will pick up you from your airport at 07h25 am and we’ll explore Casablanca’s main attractions and cultural places, including the great Hassan ll Mosque and departure to the Imperial city of Rabat, (the administrative capital of the Kingdom) to visit the Kasbah Ouadaya with its gardens, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and Hassan II Tower.

Day 2 : Rabat – Chefchaouen:

After breakfast, we will leave immediately to Chefchaouen (more simply called Chaouen), the city white and blue-mogador, founded in 1471 and located in the cavity between two mountains (hence its name “Ech-Chaoua”, the horns). Narrow and steep streets with whitewashed and indigo buildings, little squares, beautiful fountains decorations and houses with richly embellished doors, along with red-tiled roofs, make it one delightful town. Chaouen is considered a “holy city” because it has eight mosques. Her original population was composed mainly of Andalusian exiles, as much Muslims as Jews, which is why the ancient part of the city looks very similar to that of the Andalusian countries, with small streets with an irregular track. The oldest part of the city was built in the part high in the mountain where there are also the sources of the Ras al-Ma river. The center of the city it corresponds to the square of Uta al-Hamman, where there is a fortress and a mosque with a tower of octagonal base. The new city was built further down. In the past, access to the city was forbidden to foreigners; it was the Spanish troops who opened Chaouen once he had taken control of the northern area of Morocco to establish their protectorate. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3 : Chefchaouen – Meknes – Volubilis – Fez:

Today we continue our private Morocco tour by exploring Meknes. The guided tour will include El Hdim square, Bab El Mansour, the massive gate which is the entrance to the old city and the Jewish quarter, the Royal Granaries & the city rampart. Then departure towards the Romain Ruins Volubilis was a Roman settlement, located close to Meknes and 4 kilometres from the Islamic city of Moulay Idriss, dating from the 3rd century BC. Volubilis was a central administrative city for this part of Roman Africa, responsible for grain production and exports to Rome. It was also responsible for contact with Berber tribes who were never suppressed but cooperated for mutual benefit. Then we drive to Fez. Accommodation at the hotel/Riad in Fez.

Day 4 : Fez:

We will dedicate a whole day visiting the spiritual and cultural capital of the kingdom. You will have the chance of seeing the religious, artistic and intellectual centre of Morocco. Also, you will take a route through the most ancient Medina, the Medersas of Cherratine and of El-Attarine (construction dedicated to religious studies and profusely decorated in Arabic style), the Karaouiynes University and the Fountain of Nejjarine. After lunch, we will visit the souks differentiated by the different handicrafts, such as, for instance, the famous districts of the tanners or the Mechouar of the Royal Palace. Night in the same riyad as the previous night.

Day 5 : Fez – Ifrane – Azrou forest – Erfoud – Merzouga:

We went south to cross the Middle Atlas Mountains until we reach Ifrane, called “the little Moroccan Switzerland” because of its great resemblance to that country. One of the animals that once inhabited here was the Atlas lion, for what has happened to become the symbol of the city and to which they have dedicated a stone statue in the center of it. We will take the opportunity to stop and take some photos. We will cross the famous cedar forests and we will be able to admire the Great Cedar monkeys, the largest millenary cedar in the region and also feed the hundreds of Gibraltar monkeys that live in the area. Lunch in Midélt and from here the land becomes arid and full of spectacular geological formations and deep green valleys, such as the Ziz Valley . We will begin to see the typical architecture of adobe, palm trees, some distant Kasbahs … we are at the doors of the desert. After an hour after Erfoud we arrive at the impressive Dunes of Merzouga here you’ll be welcomed with a glass of mint tea then you will ride your camel, guided by an experienced camel man to explore what is hidden in the middle of the highest sand dunes of morocco to reach desert camp.
